A 2 lb tub of plum lekvar costs about 3.4 jars, not four.
Set the product, size, count, sugar level and handover below. The per-unit band and the order band move as you type. Every figure comes from the same table we use when we call you back, so there is no surprise between this page and the phone.
Price a jar, a tub or a pail of lekvar
Base bands per 8 oz, by product
The starting point for every calculation. Price follows the fruit: what it costs per pound, how much is lost to pits and skins, and how long it stays on the stove.
| Product | Band per 8 oz | Why it sits there |
|---|---|---|
| Cider apple butter | $10–12 | Apples are cheap all year and lose little in prep. |
| Plum lekvar | $11–13 | Cheap fruit, long cook. About nine hours in the pan. |
| Pear cardamom butter | $11–13 | Pears are reasonable. Green cardamom is not. |
| Apricot lekvar | $12–14 | Dried apricots go in alongside fresh. |
| Hill Country peach preserves | $12–14 | June to August only, Texas fruit. |
| Blackberry jam | $12–14 | Berries cost more per pound than apples. |
| Damson plum butter | $13–15 | Small fruit, sieved after cooking, a lot of waste. |
| Sour cherry jam | $13–15 | Every Montmorency cherry pitted by hand. |
| Fig and orange jam | $13–15 | Figs are dear and the peel is cut thin by hand. |
| Quince paste | $14–16 | Five hours to amber, then set and wrapped as a block. |
How size, count and sugar move the number
Bigger containers cost less per ounce because the glass, lid and labelling do not scale with the fruit. A 16 oz jar is 1.85 times the 8 oz band. A 2 lb tub is 3.4 times. A 5 lb pail, which holds ten 8 oz jars' worth, is 7.8 times.
Quantity breaks apply to the count of units of one size. Six to 23 units take 8% off. Twenty-four to 71 take 14%. Seventy-two and up take 20%. Bakeries buying a pail a week usually land in the first break inside a month.
A reduced-sugar batch at 1:6 instead of 1:4 adds $1 per 8 oz equivalent. Less sugar means more water to cook off before it sets, so the pan sits on the burner longer. Pickup is free. Austin delivery is a flat $8 per order, shown separately so it never hides inside the unit price.

Worked examples
Three orders we see often, run through the same rules.
Two 8 oz jars of apple butter, pickup
$10–12 each, no break. Order band $20–24. Nothing added for pickup.
Six 2 lb tubs of plum lekvar, delivered
$11–13 × 3.4 = $37.40–44.20, less 8% = about $34.41–40.66 a tub. Order about $206–244, plus $8 delivery.
Twenty-four 8 oz quince blocks for gifts
$14–16 less 14% = about $12.04–13.76 a block. Order about $289–330.
An estimate, not a quote. We confirm the price by phone or email before anything is made.
What the estimator will not tell you
It works out money. It does not check the pantry.
Is the number I see what I pay?
It is the band we start from. The price is confirmed by phone or email once we know what is on the shelf and when it can be ready. If the confirmed figure lands outside the band, we tell you why before you agree to anything.
Does every product come in every size?
Plum and apricot lekvar are in tubs and pails all the time. Other products in large sizes are cooked to order. Peach preserves only exist from June to August. Quince paste comes as wrapped blocks, not jars.
Can I pay here?
No. There is no cart and no checkout on this site. Use the button under the estimate to send it to us as an inquiry and we take it from there.
Happy with the band? Send it to the kitchen.
The button under your estimate carries the product, size, count and band into the inquiry form, so you do not have to type it twice. One of the three of us answers.
